West Texas A&M University, formerly known at West Texas State, is a public unviersity located just south of Amarillo, Texas in the city of Canyon (population 13,000). However, the university is also located within the Amarillo metro area which has a population close to 200,000. West Texas A&M was founded in 1910, has a student body of 9,500 (7,400 undergrads and 2,100 graduate studeents) and an academic staff of just over 280.
