With nearly 34,000 students, the University of California-San Diego (also referred to as UC San Diego) is one of the largest higher education institutions in the state of California. It is a public research university that offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in over 200 academic fields of study. UC San Diego is considered to be a "Public Ivy" university that offers a level of education comparable to that offered at Private Ivies, incuding Stanford, Yale and Harvard. UC San Diego is also one of the top ranked public universities in the nation. It was ranked 19th in 2016 by U.S. News & World Report on the publication's global university rankings and 39th worldwide by Times Higher Education World University Rankings. UC San Diego is comprised of 6 residential colleges. Even though the majority of students are undergraduate (26,000) the university has a strong graduate and professional studies program that supports over 7,000 post-graduate students annually.

The University of California-San Diego is home to the Rady School of Management – locally referred to as Rady. The Rady School of Management offers a top ranked MBA program. Its MBA program provides both full-time and part-time options for students. In addition to an MBA, the school also offers Master of Finance and Master of Science in Business Analytics degrees. Finally, the school offers a Ph.D. in business, minors in business, accounting and entrepreneurship, and non-degree professional development programs for aspiring business executives, managers and professionals.

Through the UC San Diego Extension, students have the opportunity to take courses online as they work toward the completion of their degree.
