Macalester College
Macalester College is a private four-year college that offers an undergraduate education in the liberal arts. Macalester is loosely affiliated with the Presbyterian Church but is a nonsectarion college that welcomes students from all walks of life, backgrounds and religious affiliations. The college was founded in 1874 and is located in St Paul, Minnesota.Macalester is known for being one of the most LGBTQ-friendly colleges in the United States. With the beginning of each new semester Macalester celebrates its LGBTQ community by holding the "Lavender Reception", which provides the college an opportunity to introduce LGBTQ students to the resources and services that Macalester has to offer. At the end of each year Macalester holds the Lavendar Graduation, where LGBTQ graduates are rognized for their accomplishments and contributions to the college, student body, and community.
Macalester offers 37 liberal arts majors in over 60 disciplines and fields of study, as well as 800 individual courses offered through the college's 31 academic units. Macalester also offers a "self design" option where students are able to develop their own unique curriculum tailored to their interests, major objectives and career goals.
Through a strategic academic partnership with the Washington University School of Architecture, students can participate in a unique 3+3 dual-degree program. After completing three years of college at Macalester, students can transfer to Washington University and complete an addition three years of study its School of Architecture. After only six years of study, students will graduate with a B.A. degree from Macalester and a M.S. in Architecture from Washington University.
