Harvey Mudd College

Harvey Mudd College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in Claremont, California. With a total annual enrollment just north of 800 students, Harvey Mudd is one of the smaller liberal arts colleges in the California. Notwithstanding, it has a longstanding reputation of academic excellence and is consistently ranked among the top 100 undergraduate colleges in the United States. The college offers a strong liberal arts education and curriculum with particular focus on science, mathematics and engineering.

Harvey Mudd College belongs to the Claremont Colleges consortium which includes 2 graduate and 5 undergraduate higher education institutions in the Claremont area. While each member college is individually managed and has its own admissions process, consortium members share resources and allow students to register to take classes at any other Claremont college. By sharing their resources, these 7 small institutions are able to provide their students with the resources and opportunities of larger universities.

Harvey Mudd offers four-year bachelor degree programs in various disciplines including computer science, chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and engineering, as well as several joint degrees and interdisciplinary degrees. The college also offers a Individual Program of Study (IPS) where students are allowed to design their own interdisciplinary major track of study as they work toward earning their bachelor's degree.

Students enrolled at Harvey Mudd College can elect to complete a major degree offered at any other Claremont college. However, if they choose to pursue a major off campus at another Claremont consortium school, they must complete a minor, in a major area, at Harvey Mudd in order to graduate.

Even though it isn't a very big school, Harvey Mudd is still a top ranked institution. It is well known for having one the best undergraduate science and engineering programs in the nation. It has the highest rate of students who go on to earn a Ph.D. in science or engineering of any undergraduate institution in the nation.
