Colorado School of Mines

The Colorado School of Mines, locally referred to as "Mines" or "CSM", is a public university that focuses on the study of engineering and applied science, with – as its name suggests – a strong emphasis on natural resources that come from the earth. It also has a strong focus on research. Among national universities, the Colorado School of Mines is consistently ranked among the top 100 in United States. In 2015, it was ranked No.1 in the nation by USA Today on its list of "Top 10 Engineering Schools". It was ranked 35th in the nation for its graduate engineering program by U.S. News & World Report.

The Colorado School of Mines offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees through its three academic colleges: the College of Engineering and Computational Sciences (CECS); College of Applied Science and Engineering (CASE); and College of Earh Resource Science and Engineering (CERSE).

CSM has an admission rate of just over 36% and is considered a fairly selective school. About half of entering freshman have SAT scores ranking from 640-720 for math, 590-680 for reading, and 560-650 for writing. The average ACT of entering freshing is between 28 and 32 and the average GPA is 3.8. Nearly 75% of the students at CSM are male.
