Colby College

Colby College is a private higher education institution with just over 1,800 students. The curriculum at Colby College emphasizes a liberal arts education in the arts, humanities and sciences. Colby College became coeducational in 1871, making it the first college in New England to admit female students. It is also among the oldest liberal arts colleges in the U.S. Not withstanding its relatively small size, Colby has a diverse student body. Students enrolled at Colby come from across the United States and over 60 different countries from around the globe.

Currently, Colby offers undergraduate majors in over 54 fields of study and 30 minors. The most popular fields of study at Colby including Economics, Government and Biology. It has been recognized as a highly selective higher education institution and has been ranked 19th in the nation among liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The college is also known for its high rate of participation in study abroad programs. Over 60% of Colby students complete a study abroad program before completing their bachelor's degree.

Colby College prides itself on being dedicated to the community. It sponsors a number of ongoing volunteer programs that allow students to actively participate in service projects for nearby communities. The college was recently named by Newsweek as one of the "25 New Ivies" for offering a college experience and academic program on par with that offered at private Ivy League schools such as Harvard and Dartmouth.
