The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is a public research university with a student body of roughly 29,000 – 17,500 undergrads and 11,500 postgraduates. UIC was founded in 1858 and is located, as its name suggests, in Chicago, Illinois. UIC belongs to the University of Illinois system and with just over 29,000 students is the largest higher education institution in all of Chicago.

UIC comprises 15 academic colleges and schools and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in an array of fields and disciplines. Even though the university has an academic focus, it also offers a large selection of professional and career-oriented degree programs. In fact, many of pharmacists, doctors, nurses, dentists, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals employed in Illinois studied at UIC. In addition to its focus on academic and career training, with over $400 million in annual research expenditures, UIC is ranked among the top 50 research institutions in the United States.

At the undergraduate level, the University of Illinois Chicago offers 83 bachelor's degree programs. At the graduate level, the university offers 93 master's degrees and over 60 doctoral degree programs. UIC also offers several interdisciplinary degrees and programs sponsored by inter-college partnerships.

Through UIC Extended Campus the University of Illinois Chicago offers a variety of fully online degree programs for non-traditional students, working adults and campus-based students who want to compliment their education through online learning. Degrees earned through UIC Extended Campus are exactly the same as degrees conferred via on-campus programs. Online degrees are offered at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level through the College of Business Administration, Nursing, Applied Health Sciences, Medicine and Public Health. The University of Illinois Chicago offers one of the top ranked online degree and distance learning programs of any higher education institution in the United States.
