University of Texas-Austin

Locally referred to as UT Austin, the University of Texas at Austin is a large public university located in Austin, Texas just down the street from the Texas State Capitol. With over 50,000 students and over 20,000 faculty and staff, the University of Texas in Austin is not only the largest university in Texas, it is one of the largest universities in the World. Even though UT Austin is a public research university, many in academia and industry consider the quality of education provided on par with that offered at any Ivy League institution.

With annual research expenditures in excess of $500 million, the UT Austin is also one of the largest research institutions in the United States. UT Austin has seven museums, 17 libraries and is home to the McDonald Observatory. The universities is also well known for its exceptional faculty and staff. UT Austin faculty include Nobel Prize winners, Emmy Award Winners and recipients of the Pulitzer Prize, Wolf Prize and the National Medal of Science.

In addition to world-class academic offering, UT Austin also has an extensive athletics program. Student athletes at UT Austin compete as the Texas Longhorns and belong the Big 12 Conference. UT Austin offers a comprehensie selection of both men's and women's sports and has won several championships and awards, including 130 olympic medals, 6 national basketball championships and 4 NCAA Division I National Football Championships.

Academics
At the University of Texas in Austin, students are offered a selection of more than 100 undergraduate and 70 graduate degree programs to choose from. The university awards bachelor's degree, master's degrees, doctoral degrees and professional degrees in wide array of disciplines and fields of study. The university also offers an honors program in business, liberal arts, computer science and engineering.

While not as selective as Ivy League universities, UT Austin is one of the most selective universities in Texas and the midwest. In the state of Texas, the only university more selective than UT Austin is Rice University. In 2014, UT Austin was ranked the 18th most selective university in the South. However, in accordance with Texas House Bill 588, any Texas high school student who graduates in the top 10% of his class receives automatic admission to any public university in Texas, including UT Austin.

For over a decade, UT Austin has been ranked by U.S. News and other reputable college ranking organizations at one of the top universities in the nation. It was ranked 16th in the nation among public universities by U.S. News & World Report and 30th among "Best Global Universities" for 2016. According to Academic Ranking of World Universities it was ranked 37th in the world.

UT Austin has been referred to as a "Public Ivy" – a public university that offers a quality of education and experience comparable that provided at Ivy Leagues institutions, like Harvard and Stanford. Since 1985, UT Austin has been listed in virtually every "Public Ivies" list published in the book Public Ivies: A Guide to America's best public undergraduate colleges and universities.

UT Austin is particularly well know for its engineering, social work, geosciences, nursing, law, pubic affairs and business programs. Each of these programs is ranked among the top in the nation in its field.

McCombs School of Business
The McCombs School of Business offers one of the top MBA programs in the nation. It offers undergraduate, master's and doctoral business programs to over 10,000 students a year and has an alumni base of over 93,000. It is the oldest public business school in the state of Texas. Online Degrees
At the UT Austin University Extension, individuals, and current students, can earn college credited that can be applied toward a college degree. Those seeking to participate in the University Extension program are not required admission to UT Austin. The courses taught through UT Austin University Extension program can be applied toward a degree, but students cannot earn a degree through the Extension–only complete courses.
