PSAT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized examination developed by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

This test is just a little over two hours long and consists of a math, critical reading, and writing skills section. Test takers can earn between 20 to 80 points on each section, which totals a possible score of 240 points when the other sections are added together. Unlike the PSAT, SAT test takers can earn a score ranging from 200 to 800, but the newest version of the PSAT does not contain advanced math, (problems from Algebra II and more advanced math classes), or an essay that must be completed in the writing portion of the test. The newest version of the SAT, developed in 2005, contains both advanced math and an essay question that must be answered.
