GMAT
Business schools throughout the United States use the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) to determine whether applicants are qualified to be admitted. It’s used to evaluate math and English skills considered necessary to possess in order to successfully complete a master’s program in business. The test is administered on a computer in an adaptive format. Most schools heavily rely on the GMAT for their admission decisions. Also, many business schools throughout the world also rely on the GMAT for admission decisions. In countries where computers are not readily available, paper tests are administered, or GMATs can be taken at testing centers where computers are accessible.
The GMAT is used to evaluate a student’s analytical writing, math, and verbal abilities they have acquired through the course of their undergraduate studies. Students taking the GMAT can expect to spend near four hours to complete it and have the option of taking two breaks during the test. Test takers will be tested on all three of the aforementioned areas.
Most schools will accept GMAT scores in applications that have been earned during the previous 5 years. Within this 5 year period, scores are still considered valid from the test to acceptance date.
The highest score that can be earned on the GMAT is 800.
The first section that GMAT test takers will be tested on is the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section. It is followed by the Quantitative and Verbal Ability sections in that order.
