ACT
The ACT, an acronym for American College Testing, is a test used by college and university admission committees to determine which students to admit to their schools. It’s a standardized test taken by students still in high school to test their general knowledge and ability to successfully complete college courses. The four subjects covered on the test are science, reading, math, and English. It’s set up in a multiple-choice format. A short writing section is also on the test to determine how effectively students can organize and write a short essay. The questions in each section are similar to what college students would see in a basic college course.
The ACT is what most students living in the South and Midwest take prior to applying for college. Students living on the Eastern seaboard or on the West coast usually take the SAT. However, more students living on the East coast are now taking the ACT. Many colleges and universities prefer the ACT when making admission decisions since many institutions complain about the SAT’s fairness and ability to accurately determine college success.
