  • Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement - CIERA's mission is to improve the reading achievement of America's youth by generating and disseminating theoretical, empirical, and practical solutions to the learning and teaching of beginning reading.
  • Delaware Valley Reading Association - a professional organization committed to the promotion of literacy in the home, school, and community.
  • First Book - U.S. nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide new books to children in need addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books.
  • Global Literacy Project, Inc. - A non-profit organization which collects and ships donated books to the Caribbean and Africa where they are used to create libraries in rural communities and schools.
  • Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council - Nonprofit national leader in adult education and family literacy. We provide educational programs to 6,200 adults and families each year in the Pittsburgh area. In addition, we serve another 8,000 learners in other cities around the nation through our AmeriCorps program. Our students become better parents, workers, and citizens as a result of these programs.
  • Indiana Literacy Foundation - A non-profit organization which works with and through volunteer adult literacy programs across Indiana. Most of these volunteer programs offer free, one-on-one tutoring in reading and writing.
  • Kenosha Literacy Council - Nonprofit agency in Kenosha, Wisconsin, established in 1965, dedicated to providing English literacy education to adults with the assistance of trained volunteers.
  • Kingston Literacy - Community-based program in the heart of the Thousand Islands region of Ontario, Canada. Kingston Literacy furthers the development and growth of adult and family literacy in Kingston and neighbouring communities.
  • The Literacy Council - a non-profit organization which serves a five-county area in Alabama, is dedicated to reducing illiteracy. The Council’s efforts include providing resources and referrals by maintaining a toll-free literacy helpline which serves as a primary point of contact for individuals seeking literacy assistance. Other Council efforts include training literacy tutors and conducting public awareness campaigns designed to keep the crisis of illiteracy in the public eye.
  • Literacy Empowerment Foundation - dedicated to assisting educational programs by providing inexpensive children's books. LEF has several programs available to teachers, non-profit groups and reading programs. LEF has already distributed books to over 40,000 schools nationwide.
  • National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) - An independent federal organization - mission is to develop literacy as a national asset, using knowledge, research, and practice, and working in collaboration with the Secretaries of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, and with other partners.
  • International Reading Association - a nonprofit, global network of individuals and institutions committed to worldwide literacy. More than 70,000 members strong, the Association supports literacy professionals through a wide range of resources, advocacy efforts, volunteerism, and professional development activities.
  • READ Foundation - Reading Excellence and Discovery Foundation's serves at risk kindergarten and first graders by recruiting and training teens to provide structured one-to-one tutoring in reading.
  • San Jose Area Writing Project - Goals are to improve student writing by improving the teaching of writing, yo provide professional development programs for classroom teachers, to expand the professional roles of teachers, to increase the academic achievement of our diverse student population.
  • StoryPlus Foundation - A non-profit organization dedicated to improving children's literacy - created upon the belief that good literacy skills are fundamental to success in life and that all children everywhere deserve the chance to learn.
