There are several types of colleges in the United States. While each type of college provides you certain benefits it's important to recognize and understand the differences. There are public and private colleges and there are four-year and two-year colleges. Both public and private colleges offer opportunity and prestige, and both vary in size. Public colleges typically receive much of their funding from government, as such they tend to be less expensive, especially for in-state residents. Four-year colleges typically offer bachelor's, master's and/or doctoral degree programs. At a two-year college, you'll earn an associate's degree. Most of the time, you can begin your college education at a two-year school but eventually you'll want to transfer to a four-year school.
Below you'll find a comprehensive directory of all of the accredited colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools categorized by type. If you know exactly what type of school you're looking for you can also use the college search feature to the left to narrow your search.
